A Message of THANKS

A Blessed and Happy New Year to all. I hope that everyone enjoyed the holidays with family and friends. Looking back, 2009 went by so quickly - each passing month went with memorable events - from meetings with the Board members, to sports events, picnic, service projects, dinner dance, folk fair, and the Christmas party. For a bit of flare, I added “FAAWIS Going Green,” flood fund drive, Feed the Hungry, and the scholarship award.

In my years as a FAAWIS  Board member, each President I worked with has tried hard to do their best and make a difference during their term. Likewise, I have tried this year to make FAAWIS’ image a bit different. Now we are a registered organization by the State and working  on to be a tax exempt organization.

My heartfelt thanks and gratitude to everyone… FAAWIS members, the community, Friends, Board Members, Officers, Committee Chairpersons and committee members.

And of course, my family who made this journey with me and shared the workload with me. Especially to my husband Dex, who took care of things in my absence, and have been very supportive of me. To Eunice, who stepped up as both publisher and editor of Bulalakaw when I needed one. To Justin, Clarisse and Arianna, who are my little helpers with Bulalakaw, fliers and everything…. And of course, to my sister Becky, Tessie and brothers Ferdie, Cris, Alex, and nieces who have all readily helped out when needed.

I am so Blessed to have you all behind me, supporting my endeavor, that made my Presidency as successful, enjoyable and memorable.

I am Thankful to GOD who have guided and blessed me throughout my life.

Again, THANK YOU TO ALL OF YOU for the opportunity of serving you as your PRESIDENT in 2009.

Marie Abraham-Rebancos

President 2009

Welcome Message  from
President Sheila Plaga Jackson

Happy New Year to All!!!  As I prepare my mind, spirit, and heart to a new year filled with anticipation, excitement, and a little bit of anxiety, I am reminded of His words from Philippians 4:13 which says “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” With these comforting words, I am thrilled to be your next FAAWIS president, and I am excited and ready to work with our fresh and enthusiastic board members, committee members, and many friends who have expressed their kind words to help and support my family and me.

2010 will be a lot of hard work, but by His grace, I hope to focus on these things:

1.)  To incorporate new ideas, while keeping some of the FAAWIS traditions that were started by the late Dr. Antonio Rabor and my dad, Noel Plaga, who was the first FAAWIS Vice President;

2.)  To welcome and meet new faces, while encouraging those who have been away to get involved again in the FAAWIS community;

3.) To celebrate the 40th Anniversary of the Silahis Dance Troupe and to honor the late Mrs. Ninette Santos and her legacy;

4.) To collaborate some of the events with other Filipino organizations and to work together as a community in order to provide good quality programs during the year and to make each event enjoyable and successful; and last,

5.)  Despite all the challenges of juggling work, family, and FAAWIS, I hope to always keep everything in perspective and to share the love of Christ in everything I do.

     I encourage and invite all of you to attend most or all of our exciting events for 2010.  Remember, these events are for you!  Please mark your calendars for these already confirmed events: May 1st Spring Fling Fund Raiser Dinner & Concert; September 11th FAAWIS Annual Dinner Dance; and December 11th FAAWIS Lunch with Santa.

     I hope you all will have a wonderful and blessed New Year!  Not only do I look forward to leading this organization into 2010 and leading FAAWIS into its 38th year, most importantly, I look forward to serving you, serving the FAAWIS community!
