2014 President's Outgoing Message

Joyce Coury

Richard, Joyce, Kelly (8), Gavin (6), Mark and Michael (4) Coury

T his past year it has been a distinct honor for me to serve our community as your President. I am eternally grateful for the trust that you bestowed on  me.  I have to admit; when I first started I was scared. I knew nothing and knew no one. What a difference two years can make.  Little by little, one step at a time,   what was impossible became a reality.  What a joy to see the bountiful fruits of hard work and long planning, and to see the community grow together in unity as one, smashing record attendance during our Dinner Dance and being  very successful in our fund raising efforts. We were also fortunate to host our events at wonderful venues including the Milwaukee Art Museum and the Wisconsin Country Club. People were raving about and coming back for our famous salabat as well as the adobo, rice and pancit platter at the Holiday Folk Fair. Last but not the least, what a treat to see our young ones come out of their shells as they entertained us during the Brunch with Santa.  These were just some of the highlights in 2014.  Many more wonderful things are coming in 2015!

Now, it is with great joy that I must express my appreciation.  Thank you to our dedicated Board Members for working tirelessly to organize and carry out our planned events.  Thank you to all the volunteers that worked behind the scenes giving their time and talents in making everything just right.  Thank you to our elders for showing us the way to continue our beloved traditions.  Thank you to our advertisers, sponsors and financial contributors for your generous giving. Thank you to everyone that participated in our activities with your many talents.  The singing and dancing were fantastic.  Thank you to my family for your steadfast love and support.  Lastly, I want to give the Glory to God. Everything is possible with Faith and Prayer!

Mother Teresa once said, “We cannot do great things on earth, only small things with great love”, this statement sums up the efforts all of us have given to FAAWIS this past year.

I would like to congratulate our new leader, Mr. Tom Hey, and wish him success in this brand new year. Please continue to support him with the same love you showed me and I look forward to seeing you again at upcoming FAAWIS events.

Much love,

Joyce Coury, FAAWIS President 2014
