The scholarship committee was duly impressed by the many applicants for the Filipino American Association of WI Youth Scholarship. After careful consideration of all the applicants, Francisco Alejandro Ramos was chosen as the recipient.

Francisco is the son of Ferdinand and Gloria Ramos. Francisco is currently an active senior at Brown Deer High School and was named valedictorian of his graduating class. He is involved in a variety of activities ranging from National Honor Society to Spanish Club to Handbell Choir to orchestra, to Math Team and more. One of his major activities is as a valuable member of the mentoring team for freshman students.

Francisco is also proud of his involvement with the Filipino community, especially as a member of the Liwayway Dance group for nine years. In his essay of how he sees himself as a Filipino-American in ten years, Francisco emphasizes how he hopes to continue sharing his Filipino culture. He believes that the intertwining of American and Filipino culture is combining the best of both worlds. This philosophy is what he wants to continue to share by example and involvement with both communities. Meanwhile, he looks forward to his engineering studies at UW-Madison or Marquette in the fall of 2014.

We wish to say again “Congratulations!” to Francisco.
