FAAWIS New Years Eve Party 2013

By Edgar Catacutan

Manigong  Bagong Taon !  Happy New Year to everyone!  On Tuesday, December 31, 2013, many FAAWIS members and friends braved the cold and snowy night to attend the FAAWIS New Year’s Eve party at the Polish Civic Center.  With the ongoing fundraising events for the Typhoon Yolanda disaster relief, the New Year’s Eve event attracted many familiar and new faces.   It was a success!  Thanks to the dedicated FAAWIS board members, spear headed by President Elect  Joyce Coury,  Edgar Catacutan, Marlou Kelly and Maria Tilistyak.  It was an incredible and exciting evening to be enjoyed by all.
The night started with registration at 6:30 pm, with a cash bar for cocktails,  tables of food, snacks and refreshments available for everyone.  The event opened with  Sheila Jackson singing The Star Spangled  Banner;  followed by Lupang Hinirang, sung by Delia Plaga.   Maria Yumang delivered the invocation.  Many  men and women came to the dinner dressed in their most attractive and sparkling clothing.   The out-going president, Zen Edralin, provided the welcoming remarks to all our guests.  Our emcee, Edgar Catacutan, provided his best energy to keep the event flowing.
Dinner was served buffet style.  A scrumptious beef burgundy, rice pilaf, salad and vegetables. Children had the option to eat chicken tenders with fries and vegetables. While attendees dined, the newly elected PNA-WI (Philippine Nurses Association Of Wisconsin) members were introduced and inducted by Dr. Jerry Vinluan. These inductees included: Gem Cubos, Virna Daquioag, Abby Mira, Cecile Saraspe, Nieves Soriano, Marilyn Mallari, Maria Tilstyak, Allan Pajanustan, Rose Parolanan, Mercy Violanda and Donna Pajanustan.
Also, present FAAWIS board members were introduced. These included Joyce Coury, Edgar Catacutan, Marlou Kelly, Amy Schemenauer, and Ellen Del Mar.  Newly elected board members for 2014-2015 were also introduced.  These included:  Thomas Hey, Divina Wells, Delilah Dijamco, Marivic Gilbert, and Rhoda Dickhut. Entertainment was provided during the dinner. The youth tinikling dance, performed by Amelia Catacutan and Jylian Jackson was enjoyed by the audience.  Later, a photo slide show was presented by Edgar Catacutan.  It showcased the FAAWIS events for the past year, 2013.
When the dancing started, it was contagious, as the DJ, Derek Yumang kept the night going. With variety of songs, many danced the night away.  While many stayed at their tables to enjoy the company of their friends, others took advantage of the photo booth, where they wore costumes and props to have their pictures taken for souvenirs. Games were enjoyed by both adults and children, with each winner receiving prizes.
Throughout the evening, raffle tickets were drawn and prizes were given out to many attendees. The Kindle HD was won by Zen Edralin and the Balikbayan box package free shipping deal was won by Myla Catacutan.  Many thanks go out to those who generously donated gifts and raffle prizes.  Every child that attended and participated in the games were given prizes.
At 10:00 pm, Filipino desserts were served….mmmm….masarap!!  These included cassava cake, cuchinta,  pitsi- pitsi, sapin-sapin, and other cakes.  Finally, champagne glasses were handed out to everyone, right before midnight, in preparation for the countdown to 2014…..3….2….1…..HAPPY NEW YEAR!!  Everyone exchanged hugs and kisses and sang Auld Lang Syne.  It was a wonderful night to remember and everybody had a great time ringing in the New Year.  Manigong Bagong Taon!!
