Holiday Folk Fair
State Fair Park, West Allis, WI

Once again, the Filipino presence at the annual Holiday Folk Fair was a notable success.  This year’s theme was “Celebrate the Culture of Light”.

For the fourth year in a row, the Filipino group won 1st place for “Best Use of Theme” in our Cultural Booth.   Jojo and Gerry Ramos creatively arranged parols, a capiz shell chandelier and hundreds of stars made by fairgoers into a glowing tree of light.  Our cultural booth was stunning!

Our Food Booth was once again a bit hit.  The team of Miriam Santos-Amador, Ning Mendoza, Dr. Jazmin Parcon and Dr. Nela Mendoza-Lemes along with dozens of volunteers served well-known favorites like pancit, siopao and adobo.  Despite running out of food more than a few times, they managed to feed and please the hungry crowds.  Our delicious foods and hospitality shined brightly at the Fair.

The dance troupes, led by Sheila Jackson, put on stellar performances throughout the weekend.  With the stage dimly lit, their lanterns flickered and created a surreal experience for the audience.  The energy and grace of all of the dancers made us proud!

Angeli Camara represented the Filipino group at the demonstration booth.  She baked a beautiful golden  cassava that tasted heavenly!

We hope you had a chance to enjoy Filipino culture at this year’s Holiday Folk Fair.  Please consider joining us in 2016 as a volunteer – good fun, great food and new friends.  See you there. next year!!
